Dnipro State Technical University was founded on April 25, 1920 by the decision of the Ekaterinoslav Provincial Department of Vocational Education in Kamyansky, which housed one of the most powerful metallurgical plants in the south, opened a polytechnic – the ancestor of modern technical university. Dnipro State Technical University has come a long way in its formation and prosperity.

Overview
The history of Dniprovsky State Technical University began almost 100 years ago in April 1920 in Kamianske as a polytechnic college training graduate engineers in five specialties; in 1930 the technical school was reorganized into the evening metallurgical institute; in 1960 the evening metallurgical institute was renamed into a metallurgical plant-university; in 1967 the metallurgical plant-university was reorganized into an industrial institute; in 1994 the industrial institute was granted the status of a state technical university.
Currently, according to the certificates and licenses, the university provides training in 21 specialties at the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education, 19 specialties at the second (master’s) level of higher education (90.5%) and 10 specialties at the third (educational and scientific) level with a total licensed number of 2830 students. All specialties are accredited, as well as 19 educational and professional programs of the second (master’s) level of higher education.
